TEDS - electronic sensor identification

Elektronická identifikace snímače TEDS

TEDS: Plug and measure with digital electronic data sheet directly in the sensor.

TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) allows you to simply plug in the transducer and measure straight away in all test and measurement tasks.

The digital data sheet contains all relevant sensor characteristics and calibration data to set up the entire measurement chain in seconds. All other metadata is also transferred from the sensor to your measurement channel. This forms an overall solution from sensor to result. This greatly simplifies sensor handling.

Choose from ready-made pickups and amplifiers to suit your needs and set out on your journey with maximum simplicity and minimum room for error. The TEDS chip is integrated into the sensor or embedded in the connector sensors. The cable in this case should be firmly mounted to the sensor, without any adapters between them, so that the TEDS chip and the different sensors cannot be confused.

How does it work?

The sensor characteristics needed to set up the measurement chain are stored in the TEDS system as an electronic data sheet and this information is loaded into the amplifier immediately after connection. All data is stored in the TEDS chip in the form of templates. Think of these templates as tables that list the parameters of the sensor. The amplifier reads this information and the measurement chain is set automatically in an instant.

What is stored in TEDS?

In addition to the manufacturer, serial number and other information, the TEDS also contains the sensitivity of the sensor, which is the most important information.

The sensitivity recorded in the test protocol is stored in all HBM TEDS sensors that ship with this protocol, which is generally included as standard equipment, with the exception of the force pads KMR and SLB thrust sensors.

If ordered calibration of a sensor equipped with this chip (e.g. according to ISO 376), the calibration result can optionally be stored in TEDS instead of the previously stored values.

Can the TEDS chip be overwritten?

Yes, you can override the sensor sensitivity (nominal output) with new data, for example in case of recalibration. Using the free HBM software "TEDS Editor", you can easily read and write the information to the TEDS chips.

Can the user change the content of TEDS?

HBM amplifiers such as QuantumX, MGCplus, PMX or ClipX allow writing to the sensor.

Is TEDS a pro-western HBM/HBK system?

No, the TEDS system is based on the IEEE 1451.4 standard, which is recognized by many manufacturers.
